Dec. 28 - Layout of the Day

I just recently purchased DIYfish's inserts and have been using them now for most of December and I can honestly say I'm in love with them. One of my goals for the upcoming year is to keep a journal and fish's pages with me plenty of space to do that. I will be using the big notes section to journal about my day. I will try and post what my layout looks like on a regular basis.

Mini Rak'd

Hello Dotties,

I wanted to share some bit of Happy Mail I received just the other day. Susan Marshall sent me a mini Rak, it was a surprise to me and brought a smile to my face. I love it all! But I was in dire need of those amazing Mark it Dots and they came at the most wonderful time. I just wanted to give her a great big shout out for her kindness.

Tiny Haul

Hi Dotties,

I went to the new Daiso Japan in Chino Hills yesterday. Just wanted to share the tiny haul I got.

The Washi is actually Silk tape. I will be doing a review on this at a later date. I love the little page reinforcements, especially those cute little hearts.

Frozen Fingers

Hi Dotties! Just a little rant today. A new thermostat was installed at work over the thanksgiving holiday. It is now on a schedule and it is not re programmable by anyone. So we have been freezing the last couple of days! Yesterday it was 72 degrees and today it's at 68! My fingers feel like they are stiff. I know those temperatures don't seem so cold to many of you, but to a California girl, it's COLD!!
Ok enough ranting, have a great day and Follow the Dotts!

On pins and needles

Hello Dotties,
I'm so excited! On November 9th, I purchased a slightly used Pocket Aqua Saffiano. I have been diligently tracking it all the way from Hong Kong. I just got an update from the tracking system that it has been delivered. *Squeal* I can't wait to get home and open up my package and start personalizing it. Too bad I have to work the rest of the day and then go to union meeting afterwards. (OH the anticipation is killing me!) I know you all understand what I'm going through. Talk to you soon, when I have set it up and am ready to show you.

Not your usual makeup bag

Hello Dotties,

Last month I went to Target in search of a new “Makeup Bag”. I do have a lot of makeup, but I wasn’t looking for a new bag to house it. I needed a place to keep all my planner essentials when I was on the go. I’m of the mind that everything I carry with me should be easy to move from one bag to another if need be. Next post will be all about what I carry in my tote.

I needed a bag that was not too big, but big enough to carry everything I wanted. It had to easily fit in my tote. I don’t think I was asking for too much. I started with just a very vague idea of what I wanted. I went hunting for the perfect bag at a few department stores and even a few convenience stores. I left every store disappointed because I could not find the perfect bag. I came to the conclusion that because I had not really thought out what I needed to house in the bag that I was finding it difficult. The saying “Plan to fail if you fail to plan” kept coming to mind, so I sat down and really thought about what it was I needed to carry with me.
I have recently discovered washi tape, so I knew I wanted to carry some with me. I also needed pens, pencils (I use the mechanical type, so that means I needed lead also), erasers, and correction tape. I also have a mini stapler and hole puncher that I love, so those had to be included. When I use my planner, I tend to use certain stickers, so those also had to have a place. Lastly, I use my Galaxy SIII in conjunction with my planner so I needed to make sure that I had space to carry the essentials for that too. Those include, my wall charger, a portable charger, my Bluetooth, and cables to the chargers. I also wanted to carry an extra USB, you just never know when you will need it.

So as you can see, I needed a lot of space without taking up too much space. I knew that I wanted to keep all the techie stuff together. So the bag had to have different compartments. In the end I went with a bag I found at Target. I love the size of it and the pattern on it is very lovely. I think I did pretty well, as everything has a home and it all fits so nicely. The moral of the story: Plan before you shop. If I had just gone on instinct when shopping I might have ended up with something that just wouldn't work for me the way I needed it to.

Below are pictures of what needed to be housed & where I ended up putting everything.

The Blues

Hello Dotties,
The weather is starting to change, it's getting colder and wetter here in California. I think the weather is giving me the blues. Can't wait to get home, curl up with my Surface Pro and read a book. Maybe I will finally start reading the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

Keeping it all together with headbands

Hi Dotties! Glad you could join me for my first post here on Follow the Dotts.

I recently joined a FB group called Planner addicts and have seen many things there that will help me plan life easier and with style. I am always looking for ways to simplify my life.

So when I read that the Erin Condren website sold bands to hold my planner together I got excited. Here is a picture of what the bands looks like (Left). They are $6.95 for a set of 3.

I live life on a budget, I work full time but my husband works part time and we have to make due. So I knew that I could find a budget friendly solution.

I went to Target and found these (right) Goody Thin Slide proof head wraps for $4.49 for a set of 4. I like them, they gripped nicely and the colors were ok, but I thought I could still do better.

I found these at Walgreens. They are Scunci No-Slip Grip headbands (left), $5.49 for a set of 6. I really liked the cheerful colors and the bands felt soft to the touch. I was headed in the right direction.

Next stop was Walmart. Goody Ouch less Comfort fit headbands (right), $1.80 for a set of 6. These were good, the stretch on them was nice and they fit my 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 mini binder nicely. I thought for sure I had found the right fit for me, but I decided to hit my local Dollar Tree.

At the Dollar Tree I found (left) Basic Solutions Head wraps $1.00 for a set of 8. I fell in love with these. I liked that they didn't slip, the grip was great. They come in a variety of colors, they are soft to the touch and stretch very nicely. So I bought all 3 sets that you see here. They are great! I use them on my Mini Binder Planner, my MS Blue Dots 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Notebook, and the best part is that when my hair gets in the way I use them to put it in a poly tail.

Here I'm using the green one so that it's easier to see. I normally use the black one on my mini binder and the green on on my MS notebook.
